Date Movies

Last night, my husband and I watched the movie Knight and Day. Though it hasn't had great reviews (click on the movie poster to see reviews at Rotten Tomatoes), this was a great "date movie". Both my husband and I thought it was fun, despite a few obvious flaws. There was action, just enough romance for me and not too much for him.

There aren't many movies out there that really do the trick. We both enjoy action movies, so those movies are the usual go-tos when we watch the rare movie together, but when the movies don't add some humor, it's harder to overlook the flaws or things that don't fit with the plot. The thing about Knight and Day was that there was an edge of parody that made it fun while keeping the action moving forward. Taking a step back, it seemed to both make fun of action movies with impossibly-talented god-like spies, while celebrating them at the same time.

Parody is a difficult thing to get right. It doesn't always work. Take for instance, one of our other favorite date movies, Galaxy Quest. We both enjoy that movie (once again, only a bit of romance, which fits for both of us). I think they got it right, but some critics didn't get that film when it came out.

So, tell me, what are good date movies? Give me ideas of movies with action, a bit of romance, with good comedic timing, and maybe some parody. Sounds like a tall order, but I think the perfect date night movies are.

Welcome Stacey Kennedy

Hi Everyone!

Big thanks to Ella for letting me stop by and share my new release with you all. My novels are light-hearted fantasy with heart squeezing, thigh-clenching romance, and even give a good chuckle every now and again.

My journey as a writer began as a way to keep my brain alive since being a stay at home mom can be a little let’s say numbing. It was an escape from screaming kids, dirty diapers and plain old mom duty.

It started as a hobby, but as the stories progressed it became a passion. Now, I indulge at nap time, especially the juicy bits! Every mom needs a good thrill!

Ready for Jaq?

Jaq's Harp is just over a month away & I'm getting excited!
An early review is in, from Penelope's Romance Reviews :

"...the sci fi details are awesome. Drake does a tremendous job with her world-building. The bio-engineered beanstalk, the floating "islands," the hovercrafts, the dark, gritty, and desperate feel to life for the poor schmucks left on the surface of the earth, all make for a stunning vision of a world gone awry with technology." (B+)

And also in the good news department, Jaq's Harp is coming soon from, who I think did a fantastic job with Silver Bound ( Audible / Amazon ). Can't wait to hear Jaq!

If you want a release day reminder for Jaq's Harp (futuristic, twisted fairyale goodness)--and to enter for a chance to win--sign up for my notification list. (no spam promise!)

and there's more...
I have another signing being arranged. Hopefully I'll have more details soon.
I'll also be visiting a few blogs around release day for Jaq. I'll post a calender when all the deets are nailed down.
Have a great day!
